- CountIR (3-buttons) – CR2032
- CountPlus (9-buttons) – CR2450
- TruSense (no keypad) – no internal battery
The SeeSnake CountIR is a distance counter with time/date and text title overlay capability. It was released in 1999 and has a three-button interface. The CountIR provides on-screen (see and record) time, date, distance, and text for older (pre-2009) SeeSnake monitors that don’t have this capability. When used with a CS or CSx series monitor you can turn the CountIR time and date display Off (you’ll need to use its Distance overlay, however).
The CountIR was replaced by the CountPlus in 2008. The CountPlus has a nine-button interface, video overlay, and a DataLink that sends the distance count to CS and CSx series monitors (these digital monitors have a much nicer video overlay vs. the CountPlus).
The battery replacement procedure is similar for both (see below). After replacing the battery the CountIR and CountPlus must be reprogrammed (time, date, reel type, and cable length). The CountPlus has an intuitive menu that makes setup a snap. The CountIR has a three-button interface which makes things a bit more challenging (see the guide below).
Battery replacement
The battery is located on the circuit board inside the CountPlus and CountIR housing. The housing is secured to the camera reel with four screws and a rubber seal is used to prevent water/dust intrusion.
- Remove the four screws and pull the housing down
- Remove and replace the battery
- The + (positive) side of the battery faces the center of the unit
- Avoid finger oil on the flat surfaces of the battery
- CAREFULLY seat the rubber seal (not pinched, no bulges)
- When replacing the screws, back thread until you hear it Click, then tighten (do not over-tighten)
- Reprogram the time, date, reel type, and actual cable length (lay the cable out and measure it)

CountIR Error messages
ERROR 1 – indicates a distance that is out of bounds
- Less than zero
- Distance is 40 feet longer than the programmed cable length (ex: if the programmed cable length is 100 feet but your actual cable length is 180 feet you will get an ERROR 1 message when you push past 140 ft.)
ERROR 2 – reel type and cable length not set up
- Usually indicates a dead battery
- JOBSITE WORKAROUND: if you get an ERROR 2 message at a jobsite, program in the reel type and cable length (and date/time if you need to see/record this info); these settings will be retained until the system is powered Off.
NOTE: if you’re at a jobsite and don’t know your exact cable length estimate on the high side, your count will be less accurate but you will avoid an ERROR 1 message.
