USB Drives – Recovering "Lost" Videos

Recordings can be damaged by sudden power loss (i.e. disconnecting battery or AC power), premature drive removal, or a faulty/failing drive. SeeSnake monitors incorporate technology to prevent data loss and recover damaged video files.

Safe Shutdown

  • If the battery charge drops below a usable level the monitor safely ends the recording and powers down to prevent damage to the media (USB drive) and recording

Data Recovery System

  • When you insert a USB drive the monitor checks for damaged recordings and tries to recover any it finds
  • Recovery depends on a number of factors, including the quality and condition (age) of the drive
  • An on-screen message tells you that recovery was attempted and whether or not it was successful
  • If the monitor cannot recover your video the drive's file system is likely damaged, use Windows to fix it and try again

Preventing Data Loss

  • Don't cut power or remove the drive(s) until you see the Green Checkmark (location varies, it will be on screen near the monitor's USB ports)
  • Use a high quality drive like San Disk
  • Don't use thumb drives for long term storage, copy jobs to your PC (HQ software does this for you)
  • If a drive develops errors it's likely at the end of its life, copy off your jobs and discard the drive
