Adding Wi-Fi to your microReel, microDrain, or nanoReel

Created by Guy Smith, Modified on Tue, 16 Jul at 4:42 PM by Guy Smith

SeeSnake microReel, microDrain, and nanoReel cameras are commonly purchased with the RIDGID micro CA-350 handheld monitor, an entry level monitor that lacks the Wi-Fi capability needed to view and record inspection video on a mobile device. If you want to add Wi-Fi streaming and recording capability you can do so by purchasing a SeeSnake CSx series monitor.

CSx series monitors are equipped with Wi-Fi and include apps for viewing and recording video on your phone, tablet, or Windows laptop. CSx series monitors are TruSense capable and support all TruSense features with the latest (free) software update. This article describes two entry level monitor options as well as things to consider if you are thinking of buying a complete 2nd system.

UPGRADE

2nd SYSTEM

If you want to add a 2nd system the microREEL is available in two versions: APX and CA. Which one you choose depends on whether or not you plan to use it with older SeeSnake monitors and/or the CA-350.

  • microREEL APX
    • TruSense-enabled
      • Auto Image Flip – maintains up/down orientation
      • TiltSense – displays camera's degree of up/down tilt
      • High Dynamic Range imaging can be turned OFF
    • Includes the leg kit
    • Available in a kit with the CSx Via
    • Can be used with non-TruSense monitors like the CA-350 with loss of features
      • No Auto Image Flip or TiltSense, HDR image cannot be turned OFF
      • No distance reading
      • No cradle-style handle for docking the CA-350 (optional, sold separately)
      • No CA-350 adapter (required, sold separately)
  • microREEL CA
    • All microREEL APX features and capabilities when used with a CSx series monitor
    • Distance count is backwards compatible with non-TruSense monitors and the CA-350
    • Includes the leg kit and cradle-style handle for the CA-350
    • Includes the CA-350 adapter
    • Can be purchased with or without the CA-350 handheld monitor

NOTES

  • The micoREEL, microDRAIN, and NANOreel are modular systems and use the exact same outer case and interconnect cords – only the pushrods and cameras inside the drums are different
  • If you plan to purchase a complete system and use your current microReel as a backup you can swap drums between systems in less than 60 seconds
