SeeSnake FleXmitter Sonde Replacement Guide

Created by Guy Smith, Modified on Tue, 4 Aug at 5:16 PM by Guy Smith

The high-output FleXmitter sonde is found on most SeeSnake camera systems since 2003, excluding the microREEL, microDRAIN, and NANOreel. The FleXmitter is located inside the spring, right behind the camera head, and is user-replaceable. If you believe your sonde isn't working, see our troubleshooting guide.

If your FleXmitter stops working you can replace it yourself and you have two options:

  • Reconditioned — if your FleXmitter is intact and undamaged, send it to RIDGID service; in most cases RIDGID will offer to exchange it for a reconditioned unit at a steep discount
  • New — ordering a new sonde is the fastest way to get your SeeSnake back in service; many online dealers keep replacements in stock and ready to ship

Tip: If you buy a new sonde you can still take advantage of the reconditioned exchange and you'll have a spare if needed.

Ordering a new FleXmitter: which version to choose

New FleXmitters are available in two versions with two different CAT numbers. Published descriptions and images on retail websites don't always tell you what you need to know. Here’s how to make sure you order the right version:

  • Older SeeSnake Mini reels with dual stainless steel safety cables: order CAT #15828
  • All other reels: order CAT #15323

How to tell if your Mini has single or dual safety cables

Look inside the spring — you will either see one or two stainless steel cables inside.

Note: older Standard reels also used dual safety cables. These reels also use CAT #15323.

What if I order the wrong one?

If you order the wrong part you can still use it — the FleXmitter sonde itself is identical in both versions:

  • #15828 can be used in a single safety cable reel by removing the pre-installed parts.
  • #15323 can be used in a dual safety cable Mini reel by reusing your old Locking Sleeve and Safety Cables.

Note: some retailer websites may show the wrong image or provide an inaccurate description. Ordering by the RIDGID catalog number will help ensure you receive the correct version.
